What is Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction?

TMJ Syndrome, or TMD, is really a blanket term describing a related set of symptoms. It’s not just about jaw pain! These symptoms can include headaches, facial pain, popping and clicking in the jaw, limited jaw opening, ringing in the ears, and more.

Assessment and Diagnosis

There are dozens of causes for TMD, and you may have more than one. You could have a problem in the joint itself, or in the surrounding musculature. Our assessment and diagnosis protocol will distinguish between different possible causes.

Treatment Methods:

Treatment methods will be selected depending on which type of TMJ pain you have. These include chiropractic therapy, soft tissue release, specific exercises, posture changes, and changes in your daily living. This multifaceted approach is tailored to your specific problem.

Broad Approach:

The TMJ is intricately connected to other systems of your body, including your head, neck, shoulders, spine, and breathing patterns. It is necessary to take a broad approach in treating TMD, rather than just treating the TMJ itself.
